Robins Air Force Base, Corrosion Control Paint/De-paint Hangar

The US Army Corps of Engineers awarded Austin AECOM a $80 million contract to design and construct a new corrosion control de-paint and paint facility for C-5A aircraft.

The facility was constructed at Robins Air Force Base, Warner Robins, Georgia, and has an estimated total value of more than $69 million.

The project included site work, civil development, utilities, and the design and construction of the new facility, as well as alterations to the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center (WR-ALC) Building 44 and the demolition of outdated facilities including the removal and disposal of asbestos and special wastes.

Robins is home of the WR-ALC, one of the Air Force’s three air logistics centers. The Center has worldwide management and engineering responsibility for the repair, modification and overhaul of the F-15 Eagle, the C-130 Hercules, the C-5A Galaxy and all Air Force helicopters.

The facility, designed and constructed by Austin AECOM, is needed to support programmed depot maintenance (PDM) and modifications for a fleet of 126 C-5As. This aircraft and the C-17 are the only two aircraft capable of delivering palletized, oversized and outsized cargo, and can deliver passengers or combat-ready troops anywhere in the world on short notice.
