Austin AECOM was selected by Medline for a capacity expansion of its Honea Path, South Carolina manufacturing facility. Austin AECOM’s services include planning, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of the plant expansion at its existing facility.

The present site, and its main building, originally served the previous owner as a surgical glove manufacturing facility. Medline’s plant is used to manufacture Isolex-material required to make surgical gloves. They have a proprietary process to manufacture Isolex.

Medline’s proposed expansion concept is based on duplicating the existing process with improvements and modifications made in the areas of material movement.

During the plant tour, Austin AECOM confirmed that current building utilization was very low. It appeared that substantial space was available for the proposed expansion to install additional process equipment and solid enhancement process tanks.

Austin AECOM proposed the new reactor building to be constructed at the southeast corner adjoining the main building. Future manufacturing cells are shown on the drawings to illustrate an orderly and logical expansion plan. The building addition includes overhead space required for possible installation of a cyclone for pneumatic transfer of shredded rubber.

"The success of this project is certainly a result of Austin AECOM’s commitment and team effort, working with our professionals to maximize resources and the capabilities of the existing facility, while developing a streamlined, cost effective concept for the expansion. Mobilizing your extensive experience in the execution of industrial process projects, your team delivered the project ahead of schedule and under budget."

Edward Davani, Vice President of Operations, Medline Industries
